Video about the importance of multiculturalism

On this occasion, I would like to introduce the children to a video about the importance of interculturality.

Hello guys!

We've talked about the meaning of interculturality many times in class. I'd like you to watch this video. After watching it, try to answer these questions. We'll talk about this topic in class tomorrow!

Questions:

1) Are tall people better than short people?

2) Do we all have the same hair or skin color?

3) What is cultural diversity?

Digital storytelling resource

On this ocassion, we are sharing a story with the children. First we present the text for them to read. We also include a link where they can listen to the narration of the story with moving images.

Hi guys! Please read this lovely story. At the end, you'll find a link where you can listen the story with moving images. Enjoy! We'll discuss it in class tomorrow!

Title: NO DOGS!

It was half past three and Katie had just finished school. Her mum was waiting at the gates with Jessie, the dog. ‘Can we go to the park with Jaia, Mum?’ said Katie. ‘All right, we can go for half an hour,’ said Mum.

When they got to the park, Katie and Jaia ran towards the swings and slides. ‘Come on!’ shouted Katie. ‘Let’s see how high we can go on the swings!’ ‘You can’t come in here, Jess!’ shouted Katie and Jaia.

Mum took Jessie over to the bench and tied him to it. She sat down and started to read the paper. Half an hour later … ‘Did you have a nice time?’ Mum asked. ‘Yes, it was brilliant! I went the highest!’ said Katie. ‘No, I went the highest,’ said Jaia. ‘Come on, we need to take you home,’ said Mum. That night, Jessie couldn’t sleep. He was thinking about the park. Quietly, he got out of his basket and walked downstairs. He squeezed through the cat flap – he was outside! He ran towards the park.

Soon Jessie was at the park. He walked towards the swings. The gate was open. He went through and looked around … The playground was full of dogs! Jessie climbed up the ladder, went down the slide, whizzed round on the roundabout, went up and down on the see-saw, bounced on the springy and went up and down on the swing. ‘Wooooof!’ barked Jessie. He went as high as he could on the swing. Soon it was time to go. Jessie got off the swing, went through the gate and walked back home. He squeezed through the cat flap, walked upstairs and got into his basket. He looked at Katie. ‘I went the highest,’ thought Jessie. And went to sleep.

Illustrated dictionary

An illustrated dictionary will allow our students to increase their vocabulary, a necessary requirement for being able to express themselves in English. The difficulty of this illustrated dictionary will depend on the course and the children's level. We should try to personalize the teaching as much as possible. Ideally, we can create several dictionaries for different children depending on their level.

Hello guys! Today we are going to see fruits in English. You have an example of a sentence using each new word:

Watermelon

"I like to eat watermelon in the summer"

Strawberries

"I like strawberries with milk"

Pineapple

"There are many pineapples in Costa Rica"

Grapes

"Wine is made from grapes"

Kiwis

"The kiwi is the national fruit of New Zealand"

Bananas

"The Canary Islands produce the best bananas"

Peach

"Peaches are soft"

Apple

"Newton was inspired by an apple"

Pear

"Pears contain vitamin C"

Melon

"Be careful, don't confuse melon with watermelon" 😄

Additionally, you can find more illustrated dictionaries on this website, which I highly recommend:   click here and go to picture dictionary

A song doesn't hurt anyone

Our students can learn English with songs. We must take into account the level of our students. The lyrics of the songs are a point to watch, especially in popular current songs.

Hey guys, sing this song to your mom and practice your English!😊💓

Role-playing activity

 Role- Playing Activity

Role-playing activities allow us to simulate real-life situations, where children must use their English language skills to achieve a goal previously set by the teacher.

The children have fun while practicing English!

(I have imagined three different situations for the students to choose the one they want).

Hello guys!

In this activity, you will imagine a real-life situation: you have a problem and you want to solve it.

You can choose any situation you like; you can choose from three different scenarios.

You will work in pairs and each one will be a character

First scenario: HOTEL

Character A: You go to a hotel and when you get to your room, the window won't open,

the TV doesn't work, there's no hot water, and it's freezing cold. You go down to reception

to complain.

Character B: You work at a hotel reception desk; you need to be very polite and respectful

to guests. There are no more rooms available in the hotel. Try to find a solution for your

guest.

Second Scenario: SUPERMARKET

Character A: You call your supermarket by phone and say you want to speak to the manager because he's a

friend. You ask how he is, you chat for a bit, and finally you tell him you need to buy

milk, water, ham, sugar, and a pizza. But you need it delivered because you're sick and

can't leave the house.

Character B: You're the manager of a supermarket, happy to talk to your friend and want

to help him, but unfortunately the delivery truck is broken down and you can't deliver the

food to your friend. Think of a solution.

Third Scenario: PROBLEM WITH THE SECURITY GUARD

Character A: You're going to see a football match of your favorite team, but when you

arrive, the security guard asks you to take off your clothes to make sure you're not carrying

any weapons. You don't want to take off your coat because it's very cold. Try to convince

the guard that you're not carrying any bottles or anything dangerous.

Character B: You're the security guard and you don't want to be rude, but you have to convince this

person that he can't enter the stadium unless he take off his coat. Furthermore,

you suspect the ticket he has isn't genuine. Ask him questions to determine if he is lying

or telling the truth.
